The Free AEO Checker evaluates six page-level areas: search foundation, entity clarity, answer readiness, evidence and trust, structured data, and citation readiness.
Link to this answerWhat Does the Free AEO Checker Analyze?
The checker is designed around the parts of a webpage a publisher can actually improve. It does not claim access to proprietary Google, ChatGPT or other AI ranking systems.
Search Foundation
Core page signals such as titles, descriptions, H1 structure, canonicalization, indexability, language, mobile viewport and page substance.
Entity Clarity
How clearly the page identifies its person, organization, service, product or primary subject across visible content and structured data.
Answer Readiness
Whether question-led sections contain direct, self-contained answers with enough surrounding context to remain useful.
Evidence & Trust
Signals such as attribution, first-hand experience, source links, dates when relevant, About and Contact pathways, and support for factual claims.
Structured Data
JSON-LD validity, entity schema, duplicate identifiers, semantic HTML and consistency between machine-readable and visible content.
Citation Readiness
Stable anchors, answer passages, source support, lists and tables, original evidence signals and clear section boundaries.

Yes. The Free AEO Checker also functions as a page-level GEO checker and AI search audit because AEO, GEO and AI search optimization overlap around discoverability, entity understanding, useful answers, evidence and retrieval structure.
Link to this answerIs This Also a Free GEO Checker and AI Search Audit?
Yes, with an important qualification. Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization describe overlapping work around search and AI-assisted discovery. This free AEO tool therefore evaluates many of the same page-level factors someone may be looking for when searching for a GEO checker, AI search readiness checker, AEO audit tool or generative search optimization tool.
I do not create separate scores simply to match every acronym. The same page still needs a strong technical foundation, useful information, clear entities and content that can be retrieved without losing important context.

The checker evaluates page-level factors relevant to Google AI Overview readiness, but it cannot predict or guarantee inclusion because third-party tools do not have access to Google’s internal ranking or AI Overview selection systems.
Link to this answerDoes the AEO Checker Test Google AI Overview Readiness?
It evaluates factors that can matter to a page’s overall search readiness, including technical accessibility, useful content, entities, answer structure and supporting evidence. It does not claim to measure an internal Google AI Overview score.
That is why this tool treats AEO and GEO as extensions of good search practice rather than rewarding unsupported tactics such as special AI-only markup, mandatory llms.txt files or arbitrary content chunk sizes.

The AEO Readiness Score is a proprietary 0–100 page-level assessment combining six categories. It measures observable webpage signals, not a hidden score used by Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity or another answer engine.
Link to this answerWhat Is an AEO Readiness Score?
A single number is useful only when its limits are clear. The score summarizes observable page-level signals into a consistent diagnostic so you can compare stronger and weaker pages without pretending the score came from an AI platform itself.
Repeatable
The same HTML is evaluated against the same internal framework, making before-and-after comparisons more useful.
Page-Type Aware
A homepage, service page and article do not need identical signals, so the analysis accounts for page context.
Deliberately Limited
The score cannot measure off-page authority, real AI citations, prompt demand, private analytics or a search engine’s internal decisions.
[a6]
The free checker provides an overall score, six category ratings and broad priority areas. A full professional audit adds live prompt testing, citation competitor research, affected page elements, rewritten answer examples, structured data recommendations and prioritized implementation guidance.
Link to this answerWhy Does the Free Checker Not Reveal Every Fix?
The free service is meant to tell you whether a page has meaningful AEO opportunities and where those opportunities are concentrated. It is not meant to publish the underlying scoring model or turn a proprietary consulting methodology into a copyable checklist.
You still receive a real score and useful diagnosis. A professional audit goes further by documenting how the page appears for a defined set of buyer-intent prompts, identifying competing cited sources, and connecting those observations to page-specific recommendations you can act on.

The Free AEO Checker was built by Eric Strate, an SEO and Answer Engine Optimization consultant whose search experience dates to 2012 and who created the Web Answer Citation Protocol (WACP).
Link to this answerWho Built the Free AEO Checker?
The tool was built by Eric Strate, an SEO and Answer Engine Optimization consultant. My work combines technical SEO, search intent, entity clarity, AI-search testing and publishing experiments such as WACP rather than treating AEO as a replacement for traditional search fundamentals.
That distinction is important because a useful AEO audit should separate observable webpage problems from claims that no third-party tool can verify.

This page uses WACP 3.0, Eric Strate’s experimental publishing architecture for connecting concise, uniquely addressable publisher-authored answers with visible supporting content and a matching semantic layer.
Link to this answerA Live Answer Architecture Experiment
This page implements the Web Answer Citation Protocol (WACP 3.0). Each major section has a stable answer identifier, a concise publisher-authored Answer Object, visible supporting content and a matching semantic representation below.
WACP is optional and remains experimental. The Free AEO Checker does not evaluate, reward or recommend WACP as part of its audit score. This page uses WACP only as a live publishing experiment while the checker evaluates broadly applicable page-level signals.
Need More Than a Score?
